Collins VIR 351 Nav with glideslope GLS 350

I have a used Collins VIR 351 with GLS 350 for sale. This was yellow tagged in '94. This navigation system has spent the last ten years in a bench mounted piece of test equipment. I have seen it light up but I cannot assure of its full functionality.

How does HGS or HUD work ?

Please can anybody tell me how the Heads Up Display in an airliner know where the runway is situated so that it can "paint" a representation of the runway on the screen ?

Does the HUD calculate the position from GPS data ?
What is involved in certifying an existing HGS system for landings in a country where the HGS is not previously certified ?

Also can Infra Red be overlaid on older HGS systems or must one purchase an entirely new HUD system for I/R ?

This box is used, but in excellent working condition. This unit is selling for much less than a new replacement would cost, and these original CTS-10's are not so easy to come by anymore. $4,950.00
